BRNO WAS INTRODUCED TO NEW YORK: THE CITY PRESENTED THE FAMOUS VILLA TUGENDHAT AS WELL AS ITS R&D AND BUSINESS POTENTIAL

Bohemian National Hall in Manhattan belonged to Brno on October 1st and 2nd, 2012. On the occasion of BRNO DAYS IN NEW YORK city presented their pride, Villa Tugendhat. Conference devoted to this pearl of functionalism, inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, continued with an exhibition about the history and the current existence of the villa together with a screening of the international movie premiere of "The Fate of Tugendhat" from the production of the Czech Television. The city of Brno presented Villa Tugendhat as the outstanding cultural and architectural genius loci. All of that has been projected in conjunction with the city’s R&D and business potential during the conference "Brno – a City of Knowledge Economy ", which has covered the entire second day of the event. The main goal of the conference was to strengthen existing ties with U.S. trade partners and to establish contacts with new investors. Among other speakers who presented were the representatives of the American companies and institutions already successfully operating in Brno, for example Mayo Clinic, IBM and Honeywell.

The presentation of Brno was held under the auspices of the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs, the U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic, the Czech Ambassador to the U.S., the Mayor of the City of Brno, the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic and in co-operation with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York, the American Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic and the Czech Center New York.

317 Dr. Virend Somers from Mayo Clinic was a "Keynote Speaker" of the conference "Brno - Knowledge Economy City". Dr. Somers is also an International Director for Science and Research in the City of Brno project of International Clinical Research Center of St. Anne´s University Hospital (FNUSA - ICRC).
